Job Summary
The Activities Director plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for residents in assisted living and nursing home settings. This position is responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing engaging recreational and therapeutic activities tailored to the needs of seniors, including those with Alzheimer's, dementia, and other cognitive impairments. The Activities Director will foster a supportive environment that encourages social interaction and promotes physical and mental well-being among residents.
Duties
- Develop and implement a comprehensive activities program that meets the diverse interests and needs of residents.
- Plan and coordinate events, outings, and social gatherings to encourage resident participation and engagement.
- Collaborate with care staff to ensure activities are aligned with residents’ care plans and health considerations.
- Provide recreational therapy sessions that promote physical activity, cognitive stimulation, and emotional support.
- Maintain accurate records of resident participation in activities and assess the effectiveness of programs.
- Communicate regularly with residents, families, and staff to gather feedback on activities and make necessary adjustments.
- Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) as needed to promote independence while ensuring safety.
- supervise volunteers or staff involved in activity programming.
Requirements
- Experience in event planning or recreational therapy is highly desirable.
- Previous experience in assisted living or nursing or residential settings is preferred.
- Familiarity with Alzheimer’s care, dementia care, memory care, or working with people with disabilities is essential.
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with residents, families, and team members.
- Background in caregiving or long-term care experience is beneficial.
- Knowledge of aging issues counseling or social work principles is a plus.
- Excellent schedule management skills to coordinate multiple activities simultaneously.
