We have a fantastic job opening for an enthusiastic and motivated, Young Carers Engagement Worker to join our dynamic, creative and supportive Children & Young Adult Carers team.
Main purpose of role:
· To support young and young adult carers from 5-25 years
· To support the development of new opportunities that help facilitate a better support Young Carers through their educational, and emotional wellbeing whilst allowing for respite care.
· To assist in the development of a smooth transition into adulthood, and further education, training, work or volunteering.
· To support in the mitigation of negative impacts that caring might have had on their lives by providing young and young adult carers with personal development opportunities, growing their life skills, raising aspirations, developing resilience, and improving their future life opportunities.
· To assist in managing strategic partnerships with a range of education, private sector, training and apprenticeship providers to grow our support offer.
· To carry out young carers assessments (Training Provided) which enables young carers to access support that facilitates personal growth, enhances wellbeing, develops resilience and safeguards from abuse.
Key responsibilities:
- To work as part of a team inclusive of the Young Carers, and Young Adult Carer team and service.
- To contribute to the achievement of individual SMART targets in participants’ personal development plans as agreed with YC Manager.
- To contribute, and assist in the delivery of annual user-led programme of workshops that offer young, and young adult carers the life skills that will help them to become better supported young/young adult carers which raise aspirations, and improve employability, and future life prospects.
4. To assist in maintaining existing relationships with further education providers, youth services, third sector organisations, local employers and apprenticeship schemes, and help develop new strategic relationships that provide progression opportunities for project participants.
- To assist in maintaining the relationship with grant funders, and with the support of the Young Carers Manager provide the requisite feedback and monitoring reports.
- To assist in contributing to the writing of reports including progress / outcome data, and other evidence.
- To assist in sourcing and complete applications for relevant small grant funding to benefit young adult carers, and their families, especially to meet the identified needs of project participants, including accessing hardship grants, and personal funding for essential items such as: clothes, equipment or access to vocational qualifications.
- To assist in the running of the annual programme of social activities offering young, and young adult carers the opportunity to have a life outside of their caring roles.
- To complete activity, and individual risk assessments where required.
- Assist in monitoring outcomes, and carrying out evaluations appropriate to the success of the project.
- To work within defined / allocated budgets, and follow procedures for the reporting of spend.
- Assist in developing social media campaigns.
- Assist in the development, and support of volunteers and casual staff members.
- To ensure the programme is user-led through regular consultation activity, and regularly evaluate participant experience of our services.
- To represent Harrow Carers at external meetings, promote our programme with other services, and ensure a strong working relationship with local schools and colleges.
- To keep comprehensive records of activities using the partners’ Client Record Management system, Charity Log, and ensure accurate data is available when needed.
- To cross refer young adult carers, and their families to other carer services delivered by the partners or beyond, and source support if there is no appropriate provision available locally.
- To take part in regular supervision, and attend meetings when requested to do.
- To take responsibility for own professional development, and identify/attend regular relevant training courses, and conferences.
- To work flexibly, including one evening per week and agreeing of possible occasional weekend work for which time off in lieu will be given.
- To carry out the above tasks in accordance with relevant policies and procedures including Safeguarding Children & Vulnerable Adults, Equal Opportunities, Confidentiality, Information Governance, Risk Assessment and Health and Safety Policies.

Person Specification
Experience & Education
- Qualified to A Level/BTEC or equivalent in youth work or similar.
- Excellent communication skills; both written and oral.
- Experience and knowledge of safeguarding procedures to protect children and vulnerable adults.
- Experience of project-based working and achieving targets (desirable).
- To be experienced in working on a one-to-one basis with clients and with groups.
- Experience of budget management (desirable).
- Experience of carrying out risk assessments.
Job Related Knowledge
- To be computer literate and experienced in Microsoft WORD and EXCEL.
- Understand carers’ issues and rights (some training can be provided).
- Ability to work individually using your own initiative with little supervision.
- Good organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to always treat service users with respect and dignity, adopting a culturally sensitive. approach which considers the needs of the whole person.
- Ability to build constructive relationships with clients and professionals.
