About this job
Local Organisers play an essential role in ensuring the success of our members’ campaigns. The role is very dynamic and would be suited to candidates who are keen to be on the ground, in workplaces, speaking directly to workers to motivate them to join their trade union and take collective action.
With the support of Regional and Area Organisers, you will take part in the process of developing organising strategies, in line with the national Organising to Win strategy. Your main responsibilities will include going into workplaces, having one on one conversations with workers and recruiting them, encouraging their participation, building their confidence and empowering them.
You will have to identify influential workers within groups and support them in leading their colleagues towards a win. You will build them up into becoming strong workplace representatives, who will be able to keep on organising their colleagues and ensure that UNISON keeps on growing and becomes a union that fights for its members. Previous experience as a recruiter, organiser and campaigner within a trade union or community organisation would also be desirable. You will also need to demonstrate a knowledge of trade unionism and our union’s values.
The successful candidate will need to be flexible with their working hours and have the ability to travel in a timely manner across the South West Region. You may also have to travel to London for meetings/training as required
