The Role
Work as part of the Electrical Services team to ensure the safe and effective operation of the mine shafts and skipping systems. Execute work in line with safety standards, operational priorities, and compliance requirements.
The Key Responsibilities
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all relevant safety rules, risk assessments, COSHH assessments, and method statements.
- Attend toolbox talks and participate in safety briefings.
- Understand and execute emergency procedures as required.
- Ensure risk assessments and method statements are appropriate and followed for all tasks.
Operations & Maintenance
- Operate the shafts and skipping systems safely and effectively in line with operational needs.
- Liaise with the maintenance department for compliance testing and inspections.
- Plan and execute tasks based on operational schedules, safety assessments, and shift requirements.
- Decision Making & Problem Solving
- Make informed decisions in hazard identification and risk management.
- Use experience and judgement to manage incidents and prioritise tasks in consultation with supervisors.
Communication
- Maintain clear communication with Foremen, other winder personnel, contractors, and supervisors.
- Understand and report on all aspects of daily activity and ongoing maintenance operations.
- Information Management
- Interpret and act on technical manuals, method statements, verbal instructions, and previous work reports.
- Use available information to plan and implement tasks efficiently and safely.
Experience & Qualifications
- Experience working in underground operations; shaft and winding engine experience advantageous.
- Level 2 Skills for Life (Numeracy, Literacy, ITQ) or GCSE equivalent/higher.
- Risk Assessment training.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Willingness to complete any additional qualifications required within a reasonable timeframe.
