About The Hive Youth Zone
The Hive is an inspirational charity in Birkenhead, providing thousands of young people aged 8–18 (and up to 25 with additional needs) with somewhere to go, something to do, and someone to talk to.
We run an incredible range of activities, including:
Football, Boxing, Art, Music, Media, Salon, Climbing, Skating, Sports, Gardening, Cooking, STEM, Mentoring, Wellbeing projects, Outreach, LGBTQ+ clubs, Kit Car building, Young Ambassadors group, and many, many more!
Our volunteers are at the heart of what we do – helping us create a safe, fun, and supportive environment for young people to reach their full potential.
When you can get involved:
Here’s our weekly timetable to help you choose sessions that fit your availability:
- Monday (4PM–8PM): Project Night
- Tuesday (4PM–6PM): LGBTQ+ group Work It Out
- Tuesday (4PM–8PM): Hiveability 13+ (seniors with additional needs)
- Wednesday (4PM–8PM): Juniors (ages 8–12)
- Thursday (4PM–9PM): Seniors (ages 13–18)
- Friday (4PM–10PM): Seniors (ages 13–18)
- Saturday: Closed
- Sunday (10AM–2PM): Hiveability (ages 8–25)
- Sunday (3PM–7PM): Juniors (ages 8–12)
Volunteers don’t need to stay for a whole session if the times are long (e.g. seniors) – you’re welcome to help for however much time you can give.
What we’re looking for:
- Volunteers aged 18+ (must be 21+ to support in senior sessions)
- Enthusiastic, reliable people who want to make a difference in the lives of young people
- No specific skills required – just a willingness to get involved, whether that’s sports, arts, mentoring, or simply chatting with young people and supporting them
- Previous youth work experience is great, but not essential – we provide training and support
What you’ll gain:
- Experience working with young people in a dynamic and supportive environment
- Training, safeguarding, and ongoing support
- The opportunity to share your skills (or learn new ones!)
- The rewarding experience of inspiring and empowering the next generation
Requirements:
- Two references
- Enhanced DBS check covering children (provided by The Hive if you don’t already have one)
- Safeguarding training (provided by The Hive)
