You will carry out tree inspections across the borough, ensuring assessment, inspection, and surveying of trees
is carried out in a consistent and cost-effective manner in the daily delivery of environment operations
within a local authority and commercial environment. Ensuring that all services are delivered in accordance
with the Council’s values, beliefs, priorities, policies, procedures and objectives. Ensuring all allocated
tasks are carried out in accordance with health and safety legislation, regulatory compliance and
environmental standards.
Working within a team you will carry out tree inspections across the Borough; ensuring that work is carried out effectively and safely
at all times. Main tasks will include driving to various sites, making visual inspections of trees and
conduct tree risk assessments, recording site, and individual tree data electronically. Identifying
structural defects, pests and diseases, control and therapy, physiology and making recommendations
and specifications for remedial tree works, communicating high risk and urgent requirements to the
appropriate team members.
Liaise with members of the public, customer services and team members in relation to enquiries,
service requests and complaints in relation to tree related issues in accordance with service level
agreements. This will include site meetings and written and verbal reporting, communicating clearly
with sufficient detail to ensure decisions are clearly understood, providing a high level of customer
service.
Contribute to the planning and programming of cyclical inspections, specific projects and contracts,
implementing specified actions, and assist in the development of relevant policies and strategies.
Ensuring targets and required standards are achieved.
Complete and submit planning applications for trees under conservation area or tree protection order
planning stipulations & communicate with the planning department of CE and the Tree officers to stay
keep the tree stock in keeping with local authority policies and goals.
Working at height using a variety of climbing and safety equipment to comply with working at height
regulations. This includes using temporary access platforms e.g. Mobile Elevating Work Platforms to
perform aerial inspections of trees, identifying and assessing defects that cannot be carried out at
ground level.
Assist with the auditing of contractors, in-house arborists and the use of equipment and PPE
confirming all works are carried out as per specification and in accordance with health and safety
legislation and guidance, British Standards and any other relevant performance or quality standards.

Cheshire East Council are looking to recruit a Tree Inspector to join our busy Arboriculture team.
We are looking for somebody who will be committed to providing an effective frontline service to the residents of Cheshire East in a courteous and professional manner. You will be expected to undertake a variety of tree inspections both within the parks and open spaces maintained by the council as well as sites relating to commercial contracts. This role has been
The job holder will be required to work as part of the arboricultural team and will deliver day to day arboricultural inspection duties in multiple locations.
The role requires the job holder to have effective communication skills both verbally and written and a sound technical knowledge of associated disciplines. They will need to regularly communicate with a variety of stakeholders including elected members, the public, commercial customers, colleagues, and contractors.
The job holder will be required to hold a full driving licence to undertake tree inspection throughout the borough. They will have access to a fleet of vehicles, devices, software, and machinery to carry out their duties and to travel to site.
The areas of work are:
- A high proportion of lone working, carrying out most types of tree inspection, including individual trees, groups of trees, and woodlands. The inspections will be cyclical as part of the Cheshire East Tree Strategy, and adhoc as a result of enquiries or service requests. Carrying out tree risk assessments to ensure the tree benefit and habitat value is balanced against risk to persons and property.
This role has been developed to fulfil the objectives of the Cheshire East Tree Risk Management Strategy.
The job holder will be supervised by the Senior Tree Inspector and will form part of the wider Arborist Team dealing specifically with tree management and maintenance across the borough of Cheshire East providing contracted services to the local authority and commercial customers.
- Working at height to complete aerial inspections (supported by other team members)
- Taking responsibility for the health and safety of self and others
- Providing up to date specialist & technical advice when working on and specifying works and treatments to trees
- Use of calibrated laser devices to take measurements
- Using mobile / tablet devices to record inspections and recommendations using specialist software
