Main Purpose of Post:
As a Traffic Management Operative, your responsibilities and primary objectives will be to support, identify and report any ideas or systems which may benefit the new traffic management division to the Traffic Management Supervisor.
This role will be primarily field operations with some office-based work, dependent on the department’s needs.
You will be required to carry out tasks such as setting up, maintaining and taking down temporary traffic lights, as well as manning road closures - ensuring all schemes run smoothly and efficiently during each working day.
Due to the nature of the industry each role would require a certain flexibility, and you must be able to work both days and nights, including some weekends as required.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Conduct site inspections across all live work sites.
- Provide operational support to teams when required.
- Traffic management installations.
- Carry out site safety checks.
- Ensure traffic management is not installed without the relevant consents being in place.
- Inspect future proposed traffic management layouts to ensure all site risks have been accounted for e.g. bus stop suspensions, parking bay suspensions, pedestrian crossings etc.
- Investigate and provide information for non-compliance, traffic management related but also an awareness of non-compliance or safety issues within all areas of the work
- Attend site meetings, progress meetings and other meetings where required when TM Supervisor is not available.
- To carry out any other duties appropriate for a job of this nature.
Experience
- Experience within Traffic Management (required)
- Experience within a similar role
- Hold Streetworks O1 (Signing, Lighting & Guarding) accreditation (desirable)
- Lantra M1, M2, M5, & M6 qualifications desirable
- Have strong planning, organisation, and monitoring abilities.
- Strong administration skills and ability to use Microsoft Office.
- Ability to organise your workload and prioritise tasks accordingly.
- Have strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Have a strong orientation towards quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
- Be adaptable and flexible in your approach to work.
- A legal right to work in the UK.
- Driving License (essential)

- To be flexible to working times and locations
- The ability to speak Welsh would be an advantage, but not essential
- A good level of physical fitness is required
- Must be willing to undertake any other training deemed necessary to fulfil the role.

Salary is based on a 50 hour week. On-Call Rota.
