The role
Are you excited by the challenge of helping turn raw data and bold ideas into real-world AI systems? Do you thrive on fine-tuning models, writing clean Python and solving thorny technical problems that push AI teaching and research forward? If so, we have an exceptional opportunity for you.
We are seeking a dynamic AI/ML & HPC Technical Services Engineer to join our Faculty Technical Services team. You will be a key member of our growing Digital Services Team, dedicated to driving the university’s mission of innovation in teaching, learning, and research through cutting-edge software technologies.
What You’ll Do:
- Support AI teaching and research: You'll support students and staff through the full AI model development process, from data preparation to initial training. Some support using traditional computing resources, with additional support involving HPC systems such as configuring GPU nodes, managing Slurm queues, containerising teaching notebooks, and enabling advanced pipelines
- Promote Robust Software Practices: You'll champion essential software development skills for AI, particularly in Python, covering areas like testing, version control, and continuous integration/delivery (CI/CD), helping students develop reliable, maintainable projects.
- Deliver Tailored Technical Solutions: You'll offer hands-on support and troubleshooting for coursework and research, diagnosing and resolving issues such as integration issues, data bottlenecks, or unpredictable schedulers to ensure projects progress smoothly.
- Contribute to digital team goals: You'll work closely with key members of your team, academics and IT Services to anticipate and plan for future needs, devise creative technical solutions, and ensure excellent resource management.
Join us and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of digital innovation at our university. If you’re ready to code your way to success and make a tangible impact on academia, we want to hear from you!
What will you be doing?
You will shape the way that Technical Services help the faculty leverage key AI development technologies to empower researchers and students, enhancing their ability to innovate and collaborate on complex projects involving AI technologies, sw development, integration and devops.
You will work closely with leading academics and research teams, providing the technical expertise needed to develop cutting-edge solutions that support ground-breaking research and advanced teaching methodologies.
- You will play a key role in the operational delivery of AI services, providing specialist support to students and researchers while also contributing to the strategic direction and creative design of technology-driven research and learning initiatives
You should apply if
Key Skills & Experience:
