Support Worker
Pay rate: £14 per hour
Shift Pattern: Days, Sleeping Nights & Weekends
We’ve got an exciting opportunity for a kind, sociable and caring person to join an established, supportive team caring for a 23-year-old fun-loving young lady who lives with her family in Wigan.
She adores being out and about in the community and enjoys attending her special needs college with her support worker. Activities you’ll support her with include hydrotherapy, local attractions, family days out, respite visits (overnights and full days), and the things she loves most — spending time with people, having fun, and making memories.
Although she is non-verbal, she communicates her needs and wishes in her own way, and excellent communication skills are essential to understand and respond to her confidently. There is also a lovely, well-trained family dog in the home, so being comfortable with pets is important.
What you’ll bring
We’re looking for someone with empathy, patience and a positive approach who can provide high-quality care on a 2:1 basis.
You’ll also need:
A full UK driver’s licence and your own vehicle
Confidence in supporting people in the community as well as at home
A proactive, engaging approach to make each day fulfilling and fun
Training provided
While experience with complex care is preferred, it’s not essential as you’ll receive full training from a registered nurse dedicated to the package. This includes:
Gastrostomy care
Moving and handling
Personal care
Cough assist and suction
Nebulisers and medication administration
