We are a reputable steel fabrication company based in Rochester, specialising in bespoke structural and architectural metalwork for commercial, industrial, and residential projects across the South East. Our portfolio includes everything from structural steel frameworks to precision-crafted staircases, balustrades, and feature metalwork.
With a busy and growing order book, we are looking to appoint an experienced Workshop Supervisor to lead and manage our fabrication team, ensure efficient workshop operations, and uphold the high standards our clients expect.
Role Overview:
As Workshop Supervisor, you will oversee daily operations in the fabrication shop, manage a team of fabricators and welders, coordinate with project managers and site teams, and ensure all work meets quality, safety, and delivery standards. This is a hands-on leadership role suited to someone with a strong background in steel fabrication and team supervision.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and supervise a team of fabricators, welders, and general workshop staff.
- Schedule and allocate work to meet project deadlines and workshop capacity.
- Ensure fabrication is carried out to specification, drawings, and quality standards (e.g., BS EN 1090).
- Conduct quality checks on completed work and ensure adherence to company QA procedures.
- Liaise with project managers, estimators, and site teams to coordinate production.
- Maintain stock control and manage material and consumable orders as required.
- Enforce health & safety procedures and ensure team members wear appropriate PPE.
- Provide guidance, training, and support to team members, including apprentices.
- Operate and maintain workshop machinery and equipment (e.g., saws, presses, welders).
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organised workshop environment.
Requirements:
- Extensive experience in steel fabrication, including structural and architectural steelwork.
- Previous supervisory or team lead experience in a workshop environment.
- Strong ability to read and interpret fabrication and engineering drawings.
- Proficient in MIG, TIG, and/or MMA welding techniques.
- Knowledge of fabrication standards and compliance (e.g., CE marking, BS EN 1090).
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organisational skills.
- Strong problem-solving ability and a proactive, hands-on approach.
- Forklift and/or crane operation certification desirable.
- Relevant qualifications in fabrication/welding (NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or equivalent).
