Are you an experienced Software Engineer looking for a role where your work really matters? At SBS, we build and support cutting-edge software used by some of the UK’s biggest blue-chip companies and household-name financial institutions.
This isn’t just another dev job. You’ll play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and maintaining mission-critical systems that power the future of finance.
Based in Sheffield, you’ll join a collaborative, distributed development team working across the UK and India. Expect a mix of exciting technical challenges, direct client engagement, and the opportunity to shape innovative solutions used at scale.
What will the role involve?
- Owning the full software development lifecycle, from interpreting high-level specs to delivering robust, scalable code.
- Working hands-on with clients, providing support and solutions that make a tangible difference.
- Travelling occasionally across the UK to meet clients and teams (with some out-of-hours support when needed).
- Collaborating in a tight-knit team, where your voice and ideas will always be heard.
Qualifications
What are we looking for?
- A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
- 5+ years’ experience in software development
- Proficiency in any 3GL or 4GL programming language (Uniface experience is a huge plus – and don’t worry, we’ll train you if not!)
- Strong problem-solving skills and analytical mindset
- Excellent communication and customer engagement skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
- Flexible, proactive, and eager to try new approaches
Bonus points if you have:
- Experience with financial services software
- Knowledge of JIRA, Oracle, or MS/SQL databases
