This role is based at:

Intelligent Imaging Innovations Ltd
17 Westbourne Studios
242 Acklam Road
London W10 5JJ

Intelligent Imaging Innovations (3i) is transforming how scientists detect and capture rare biological events. At the heart of this transformation is smart microscopy. 3i is looking to develop upon a smart imaging platform that combines deep learning with automated microscope control to dramatically accelerate the discovery process in bioscience and drug development. By integrating real-time classification of cellular activity with rapid 3D imaging, smart microscopy overcomes the longstanding bottleneck of manually searching for rare, fleeting events in vast cell populations, significantly improving both the speed and quality of data acquisition. The project will offer a cross-modality platform with a level of adaptability and automation unmatched by current solutions.

This Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) between Intelligent Imaging Innovations and the University of Warwick builds on existing collaborations and represents a shared commitment to cutting-edge research and development. The KTP aims to advance our current smart microscopy solutions from a research-stage prototype into a reliable, user-friendly product for global deployment. Over the course of the project, the Associate will work on embedding advanced AI models to solve this “needle in a haystack” problem of live cell classification, developing intuitive interfaces powered by large language models, and achieving full integration with propriety microscope control software for seamless operation across a range of microscope systems. This strategic initiative will enable the widespread adoption of smart microscopy across the life sciences sector and position 3i at the forefront of a new generation of automated imaging solutions.

About You

Primarily based at 3i’s premises in London, we are looking for an exceptional candidate to be working as part of an interdisciplinary project collaborating with cell biologists, microscopy specialists and software developers, therefore experience working in an interdisciplinary research team is essential. As the associate responsible for the delivery of the project you will require excellent project management skills to manage workloads while meeting expectations of the various stakeholders. Excellent communication skills are also required, specifically the ability to convey information to a range of stake holders in a written and verbal format.

You will need to hold a PhD qualification in Computer Science or Interdisciplinary Biomedical Science with very strong applications applying machine learning to Biomedical Image data. You will need to demonstrate 3+ year’s hands-on experience with multiple different microscopy modalities, including live cell imaging. Experience with the development of smart microscopy within multiple different microscopy modalities is desirable.

You should be able to demonstrate an extensive understanding of deep learning techniques, developing generalisable models for the classification/detection of biomedical data (Python). Experience developing user interfaces to assist in the development and deployment of machine learning tools.

For further information regarding the skills required for this role please see the personal specification section of the attached job description.
