Job title: Germinal Horizon Senior Trials Officer.
Reporting to: Technical Trials Manager, Germinal Horizon Wiltshire (GHW).
Responsibilities:
Organising, managing and conducting trials at GHW and within the Germinal portfolio, together with general maintenance of the site, buildings and equipment. Dissemination of key data outcomes within Germinal and external audiences and deputising for the Technical Trials Manager when absent.
Location: Germinal Horizon, Melksham, Wiltshire.
Overall purpose of the job:
To assist the Technical Trials Manager in operation and management of the Germinal Horizon Wiltshire trials program and site.
Key activities:
1. To assist in the running of Germinal Horizon Wiltshire (GHW) and deputise for the Trials Manager in their absence.
2. Maintain accurate records of all activities and completing / compiling the field trial book
3. Work with GHW Trials Manager to plan trials, including layouts and protocols.
4. Undertake machinery tasks at site, examples include cultivating, drilling and harvesting, fertiliser and pesticide applications.
5. Manage and maintain trials ensuring fertiliser, weed control, sampling, assessing and cutting are carried out in accordance with protocol.
6. Assess the trial data utilising statistical programs, produce/present results in the form of reports/PowerPoint presentations.
7. Work with the Marketing Director and team/external PR companies to develop marketing material, technical articles and product guides.
8. To set up, monitor, co-ordinate off site demonstration areas as required by GHW Trials Manager.
9. Provide training for the Germinal sales team, customers and their employees on the new products or management systems in the Germinal range of products.
10. Liaise with GHW team with regards to maintenance/servicing for equipment.
11. Partake in Germinal or Germinal Horizon grants or funded projects as required.
12. Attend local/national shows as appropriate.
13. Setting up/running Germinal Open Days on farms or customer events under the instruction of the GHW Manager or Sales Director.
14. Undertake rogueing of seed crops as directed by the herbage seed production officer.
15. Ensure compliance with Germinals quality management system.
16. Make capital expenditure against budgeted requirements up to £500 when authorised by the GHW Trials Manager.
17. Ensure the companys Health & Safety policy is adhered to at all times.
18. To perform the job in accordance with our policies and procedures, especially the Equal Opportunities and Harassment Policy.
19. To perform any other duties as may be reasonably be required from time-to-time.
Any specific requirements:
Full driving license.
The role will require weekend and additional work time in line with demands.
The role may require travel within and outside of the UK
Person Specification
Essential
- HND/foundation degree in relevant subject.
- Crop trials experience
- Familiarity and competence with agricultural machinery.
- Knowledge and experience of trial design procedures.
- Understanding and conducting data analysis of trial datasets.
- Reporting and delivery trials data information both in writing and verbally
- Excellent written and communication skills.
- Good level of IT literacy.
- Good organisation and time management skills
- Ability to work on own initiative and within a team.
- Excellent analytical skills
Desirable
- Agricultural science, plant science degree or higher qualifications

- Experience with Genstat.
- Excellent understanding of the Agricultural Industry.

- Tractor qualifications
