Summary
We are seeking a passionate Shift Leader to join our team at SOTO WAC This role is crucial in ensuring the smooth operation of our wrapaound programmes, contributing significantly to our mission of supporting young people and vulnerable individuals through inclusive creative opportunities.
Responsibilities
- Oversee daily operations of community WAC programmes and ensure adherence to safety protocols.
- Lead and support staff in delivering engaging activities for participants.
- Foster an inclusive environment that promotes social cohesion and cultural integration.
- Collaborate with educators and surrounding team, to develop tailored programs for children with diverse needs.
- Monitor participant progress and wellbeing, providing guidance as necessary.
- Facilitate communication between staff, parents, and community.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards.
- Assist in training new staff members on programme objectives and best practices.
- Qualifications
- Proven experience in a leadership role within community services or educational settings.
- Strong understanding of childhood development principles and special education practices, Safeguarding and health and safety protocols.
- A qualification in child related field of at at least level 2-3 /QTS Or HLTA desirable
- Certification in paediatric First Aid & Enhanced DBS’
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with diverse demographics.
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with behavior management techniques is a plus.
- Ability to adapt programming based on participant needs and feedback.
Further INFO - As Playleader, you will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging 45-minute interactive sessions each day that:
- Spark creativity, imagination, and curiosity
- Encourage active play, teamwork, and resilience
- Provide educational value in fun and accessible ways
- Ensure every child feels included, supported, and valued
Your sessions might range from STEM-inspired challenges, outdoor adventures, drama workshops, sports games, or themed creative projects — the only limit is your imagination!
Alongside session delivery, you’ll play a key role in:
- Leading and motivating playworkers to deliver high-quality wraparound care
- Building strong, positive relationships with children, families, and school staff
- Supporting safe, inclusive environments where every child can thrive
- Contributing to holiday clubs (optional and paid in addition to core role)
About You
We’re looking for someone who brings both creativity and leadership:
- Minimum Level 3 childcare-related qualification (essential)
- Experience leading activities, ideally with some team leadership responsibilities
- Passionate about inclusive practice and making play exciting for every child
- A confident communicator with children, families, and colleagues
- Organised, proactive, and full of ideas to keep sessions fresh and fun
