The University of Warwick recognizes the importance of Research Infrastructure by providing a specialized department, the Research Technology Platforms (RTP) to hosts these activities and provide adequate career paths to all research infrastructure professionals.
The Scientific Computing Research Technology Platform (SCRTP) at the University of Warwick is seeking to appoint a permanent Senior Linux System Administrator staff to strengthen existing infrastructure team.
The SCRTP is a well-established research facility at the University, providing advanced research computing support to departments across campus. This includes provision of a managed Linux desktop environment for research computing, large scale data storage facilities, and high-performance computing (HPC). We have a growing staff of Infrastructure Engineers, Research Software Specialists, Linux/Network/Storage Administrators and RSEs.
Our Infrastructure team provides an expertise pool in scientific hardware deployments, installations, monitoring, problem solving and problem mitigation. This team underpins all of the activities of the SCRTP and of Computational Research at the University. This post will have a clear strategic position managing the research storage and providing core services via the virtualisation platform.
We are seeking an individual with prior experience of scientific computing infrastructure to join our team and engage across all of the areas mentioned. The position is open-ended and will involve a variety of activity in the long-term. Over the first few years this may include (but is not limited to):
- Development, maintenance and monitoring of our storage systems.
- Development, maintenance and monitoring of a new virtualisation platform.
- Support of our datacentre activities.
Exact projects and duties will be managed across the SCRTP team to best suit the skills and experience of the recruited individual. The role is well suited to candidates with a research infrastructure background looking to broaden their expertise. It provides an opportunity to create real impact across a range of projects.
