About Information, advice and support service (IASS)
The service provides independent information and support to parents/carers and children and young people with special educational needs. The aim of SENDIASS is to listen, inform and enable parents and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND), in accordance with the requirements of the SEND Code of Practice (July 2014). The Service provides children, young people and their parents/those with parental responsibility/foster carers, and any other relevant partners, with the information and support necessary to participate in decisions which enable them to take part effectively in the assessment and planning process of the Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP.)
The work includes providing support and information to individual families to enable them to play an active and informed role in SEND processes. The Service works within strict guidelines on confidentiality and impartiality.
A steering group representing parents, education, health and social care provision advises the CVS in its management of the Independent, Information and Advice Service.

Job Purpose:
To work in a multiagency way across all TWCVS projects and Adult Social Care, Children & Families Services, Public Health, Midlands Partnership Foundation Trust, other VSCE teams, stakeholders and partners
The postholder can exercise initiative, work conscientiously, and respect the confidentiality of information relating to clients.
A sympathetic, calm and efficient manner is required when dealing with clients.
- To support children and young people with a special educational need, and their parents.
- To facilitate and develop links to statutory and voluntary agencies for the benefit of young people, their parents, and our service.
- To support and deliver the day to day delivery of the service provision.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
To promote the service and ensure it is accessible to people living in the Borough of Telford & Wrekin as follows:
- To act as the initial point of contact to the Service which includes: Provide clients with high quality, impartial and accessible information, advice, and support that are appropriate to their needs, extend their knowledge and maximises their involvement in decision making.
- Using a person centred approach to ensure clients access the appropriate level of support identified by the SENDIASS tier intervention framework of support. Signposting of clients to provide a wide range of information and support on groups and organisations as appropriate.
- Liaising across a range of agencies with the child or young person/parent to help gather information
- Inputting and navigating the database to record, collect and report crucial statistics
- To promote the service and ensure it is accessible to people living in the Borough of Telford & Wrekin through leaflet creation and distribution, organised mail shots, facilitate the use of social media as an information platform and website maintenance.
- To support the delivery of the SENDIASS Service which includes social events, community-based activity and workshops. Including the planning and facilitating tasks such as acquiring venues, making bookings and providing office support and administration needs for the project.
- Carrying out evaluation exercises with clients and professional colleagues. Working on case studies and sharing innovation to respond to feedback.
- Updating and maintenance of the Telford IASS website
- Facilitate the SENDIASS Steering Group, increasing parent/carer membership including involvement in the promotion of volunteer recruitment
- Participate in the organisation and attendance at information days, community events, family sessions, drop ins, workshops representing the project and wider TWCVS organisation.
- Involvement in staff engagement/training sessions
Telford SENDIASS operates a friendly, informal team. However, we aim to maintain the highest standards of service and efficiency. Experience of working in a small team in a busy office environment would, therefore, be an advantage.
Support, supervision and training, where necessary, will be provided.
Qualifications / Experience
Evidence of a solid general education is required together with GCSE A*-C / 9-4 or equivalent including English and Mathematics. Developed keyboard skills and the ability to use Microsoft Office applications, i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet Explorer and an understanding or knowledge of Access are also essential.
Evidence of further education or training that would support your application.
Hours of Work: Normal office hours:
Monday – Thursday: 9.00 am - 5.00 pm
Friday: 9.00am – 4.30pm
Out of Hours work and a flexible working pattern will be necessary.
Time off in lieu can be arranged (overtime is not paid).

You will be required to work at any of our premises from time to time, as well as out in the community.

The postholder will be required to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
Where the post holder will work in contact with children or vulnerable adults, Telford and Wrekin CVS is entitled to ask exempted questions under the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 Exemptions Order 1975 and will require an Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service before any appointment can be confirmed.
