Working Hours:
- Monday, Thursday, Friday: 7:30 AM – 5:30 PM
- Wednesday 1:30 AM -5:30PM
- Saturday: 7:30 AM – 1:00 PM
- Tuesday: Day off (cover may be required for holidays)
Lunch Break: 30 Mins
Total Hours:
Salary: £24,206 per annum

About the Role
We are looking for an experienced and proactive Retail assistant to oversee the daily operations of the retail area at Buckfast Post Office. This is a full-time position, offered initially as a 12-month fixed-term contract, with potential flexibility for the right candidate.
You’ll take full responsibility for maintaining stock levels, overseeing daily operations, and ensuring excellent customer service — all while playing a vital role in the local community. You’ll also be responsible for the security of the premises as a key holder and must be confident in managing retail environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Day-to-day management of retail area.
- Supervise and support staff, ensuring smooth and efficient operations.
- Handle stock control and ordering for the shop.
- Provide outstanding customer service and resolve issues as needed.
- Cash up and reconcile daily takings for the retail tills.
- Run payroll for staff*
- Maintain the security of the premises as a key holder.
- Ensure all health and safety and compliance measures are met.
- Cover staff absences or holidays when needed (particularly on Tuesdays).
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong staff management and organisational skills.
- Computer literate and confident with modern technology, including EPOS systems and office software.
- Experience in cash handling and reconciliation.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Reliable, trustworthy, and comfortable working independently.
Desirable (Not Essential)
- Previous experience managing a retail/Post Office location.
- Post Office trained, with experience in BP (Bill Payments) and TP (Travel Products) systems.
- Familiarity with payroll systems* and stock management software.
