The Centre for Global Health at the Usher Institute within The University of Edinburgh is looking for Research Fellow for an 18-month post to used large datasets to explore causes of child and adolescent death across Eastern and Southern Africa.

The Opportunity:


We are seeking a research fellow to work on an Economic and Social Research Council funded study exploring the causes of child and adolescent deaths in Eastern and Southern Africa. In this study, we will be using a rich dataset that has been compiled by the Analysing Longitudinal Population-based HIV/AIDS data on Africa (ALPHA) network, and includes data from seven DSS across five different countries. The successful candidate will lead on cleaning and analysing the data from the ALPHA network and preparing outputs for dissemination.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • MSc degree in statistics, epidemiology or public health.
  • PhD (or near completion) in an epidemiological or statistical topic, or equivalent quantitative research experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and analyse large datasets.
  • Experienced user of statistical software (e.g., Stata or R).
  • Excellent project management and organisational skills.
