About the role

Applications are invited for a Research Associate, funded by the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering to support Dr Ivan Stoianov’s Royal Academy of Engineering Fellowship on Dynamically Adaptive Water Supply Networks. You will contribute to experimental research and collaborate on exploring the integration and application of machine learning and mathematical optimisation techniques for the optimal control and management of dynamically adaptive water supply networks.

What you would be doing

You will carry out research programmes in dynamically adaptive water supply networks, undertake project management and/or supervise multi-disciplinary teams. You will also submit publications to refereed journals and assist with attracting external research funding.

What we are looking for

  • Hold a PhD in civil and environmental engineering, or a closely related discipline, or equivalent research, industrial or commercial experience
  • Practical experience within a research environment and / or publication in relevant and refereed journals
  • Knowledge of machine learning methods, mathematical optimisation, Matlab, Python, Julia, SQL, PostgreSQL, Git/GitHub, water supply networks.
  • Ability to conduct a detailed review of recent literature
  • Willingness to work as part of a team and to be open-minded and cooperative
