About the role
Are you passionate about educational research and data-driven innovation to support student success? We are looking for a motivated and curious Research Assistant or Research Associate to join the Faculty of Natural Sciences EdTech Lab at Imperial College London. In this role you’ll contribute to a Digital Innovation Fund project—Extending Assessment Data Analytics capabilities (referred to as ADA), that’s shaping the future of learning analytics at the University. Based at our South Kensington Campus, you’ll help evaluate and refine data tools and practices that support students and staff across the faculty.
What you would be doing
As a researcher passionate about transforming education through data, you’ll join a collaborative and forward-thinking team at the forefront of learning analytics. This role is funded by the Digital Innovation Fund. The project “Extending Assessment Data Analytics Capabilities” (ADA), has been running since April 2024. It’s aimed at enhancing how faculty assessment data is gathered, interpreted, and applied to support students. Working alongside central learning analytics team, academic departments, IT teams, and senior stakeholders, you’ll help evaluate and pilot data tools and practices that inform staff and students. By submitting publications to refereed journals you will contribute towards creating an evidence base for the learning analytics field.
What we are looking for
We’re looking for a proactive and organised researcher with a strong understanding of data and digital innovation in education. You’ll be comfortable working as a part of matrix teams and disciplines, and confident in managing aspects of conducting educational research.
To thrive in this role, you will need:
Experience of conducting qualitative or mixed-methods research, including interviews, focus groups, and literature reviews. Proficiency with qualitative analysis tools and familiarity with basic quantitative analysis. Have the ability to present insights clearly to a range of audiences demonstrating excellent communication skills in both written format and verbally. Have an ambition to contribute towards the evidence base in the learning analytics field. Come with strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage your workload independently. Alongside your skills your approach to working with colleagues and stakeholders across disciplines should be collaborative, adaptable, and proactive.
