We are seeking to recruit a highly motivated Research Assistant to work with a research group based in the Centre of Membrane Proteins and Receptors (COMPARE) within the Division of Pharmacology, Physiology and Neuroscience (PPN) in the School of Life Sciences at the University of Nottingham. The role will explore the molecular pharmacology of receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs), focusing on how neurotrophins and their receptors are modulated to trigger the growth of neurons in the nervous system. The successful applicant will work within the Peach Lab, undertaking supervised research for an exciting research programme funded by the Academy of Medical Sciences Springboard award. This project aims to explore the role of these neighbouring glycoproteins in neurotrophin-mediated neuronal development as prospective novel targets for neurodegenerative disease.
The primary responsibility will involve research activities supporting the project, practically contributing to activities across methodologies (e.g. cell culture, molecular biology, imaging, cell signalling assays). As well as performing experiments on the project, the role will involve providing training in techniques to relevant staff/students, planning and overseeing the day-to-day running of the laboratory and communicating findings.
Candidates must hold a degree or equivalent in Pharmacology, Biochemistry or a related discipline. Experience of related methodologies, as well as the ability to collaborate with others (internally and externally), is essential for the role. We encourage applicants with a range of skill sets to apply. This role could be ideally suited to a person considering a PhD, or looking to gain additional research experience.
The post is offered on a full time (36.25 hours per week), fixed-term contract until 30 April 2027. The expected working pattern is Monday to Friday, however there can be potential for some flexibility.
This lost will provide support to help meet your professional and personal career goals in a Team Science setting. Our university is a supportive, inclusive, caring and positive community, where the University of Nottingham was the first to have achieved the Athena Swan Gold Award. We offer a range of benefits with competitive employment packages, discounted access to fitness and health facilities, a generous holiday allowance and an attractive pension scheme; visit the Your Benefits website to learn more.
Informal enquiries can be addressed to [email protected]. Please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted.
Requests for secondment from internal candidates may be considered on the basis that prior agreement has been sought from both your current line manager and the manager of your substantive post, if you are already undertaking a secondment role.
