Relief Liaison and Diversion Practitioner

Salary: £19.39 per hour (inclusive of geographical allowance)
Hours: Varying
Location: London

Are you interested in flexible working? If you are an enthusiastic, motivated practitioner but do not want to commit to full time hours we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our Liaison and Diversion team as a relief worker.
Our high profile Liaison and Diversion Service works to identify and support people with a range of vulnerabilities such as mental health and substance misuse needs in contact with the criminal justice system. We provide services to London Magistrates’ Courts and work in close collaboration with our partners in health and social care.
The ideal candidate would be someone with a qualification or postgraduate degree in an area relevant to the role (e.g. psychology, mental health nurse, mental health social worker, occupational therapy). This is an excellent opportunity to make a significant contribution to the development of the service and to build on your previous experience and skills in mental health.

Key Responsibilities


  • On the day screening for all vulnerabilities
  • Mental state examination assessment of those appearing to the court, from custody or on bail.
  • Producing court reports to support sentencing decisions
  • Liaising, referring, and linking people in with appropriate services, to reduce the need for remands and custodial sentence and ensure the appropriate care package is in place for the individual.
  • Facilitating hospital diversion for those who experience acute mental distress.
  • Providing case advice to staff from various disciplines
  • Acting promptly on any safeguarding concerns that arise through assessment or collateral information received.


Skills, Knowledge & Expertise


The ideal candidate would be a registered mental health practitioner. Previous experience working in allied health roles such as Mental Health Nursing; Psychology, Social Work and Occupational Therapy will be beneficial to applications. We welcome applications from those working towards HCPC registration and completing a Forensic Psychology qualification (Stage 2 or Doctorate), as this post can support you with meeting the requirements of such a qualification.
