We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic Postdoctoral researcher to join the Young lab to investigate secreted proteins during chronic Toxoplasma gondii infection.
The Opportunity:
You will apply CRISPR screening and next generation sequencing analysis to identify key players in Toxoplasma cyst formation. You will use imaging and biochemical assays to investigate the Toxoplasma cyst wall, working closely with other members of the Young lab. You will join the Institute for Immunology and Infection Research at the University of Edinburgh, which is a vibrant scientific community within an exciting and beautiful city.
You will join our active ToxoInEd community, with weekly journal clubs, monthly research talks and a wider community for ECRs across Edinburgh. Additional training and career development opportunities are available through the Scottish Parasitology Partnership in Research Innovation and Training (SPPIRIT).
This post is advertised as full-time (35 hours per week), however, we are open to considering part-time or flexible working patterns. The post is initially advertised for 12 months but an additional 6 month extension will be added pending confirmation of a grant extension.
Your skills and attributes for success:
- A PhD in molecular cell biology, infection biology or a related discipline.
- Experience in tissue culture and molecular biology.
- Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills and be able to interact productively with other team members.
- Ability to manage time to effectively and efficiently achieve the research programmes objectives.
- Ability to quickly learn and independently apply new techniques.
