An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner Level 4 to join our services.
We are seeking a passionate and motivated Level 4 PBS Practitioner to work within our specialist residential services, supporting individuals with learning disabilities, autism, and complex needs. Under the direct supervision and mentorship of a PBS Level 5 Practitioner, you will contribute to the development and delivery of person-centred Positive Behaviour Support strategies, working to improve the quality of life and promote meaningful outcomes for those we support.
This is an exciting opportunity for individuals committed to starting a formal career in PBS, with structured training, supervision, and professional development pathways. The successful applicant will join a structured internal MDT, working as a collaborative partnership with other clinical professionals, Operational Managers, external MDTs and most importantly the people we support.
The role will be driven by service need, alongside your individual development. There will be a requirement to work directly with the people we support, with targeted development opportunities for the theoretical aspects of the role. For this role, there is a requirement to work within the Specialist Residential services, supporting people who can display complex, challenging behavior. The candidate will need to be robust, patient and above all be able to understand that all behaviour is communication.
For this role, the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate experience of working with people with a Learning Disability, Autism, Mental Health or associated diagnosis.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work alongside the PBS Level 5 Practitioner to assess the needs of individuals and contribute to functional behavioural assessments.
- Providing targeted support and crisis intervention.
- Support the design, implementation, and evaluation of individualised PBS plans under supervision.
- Model positive, proactive support strategies to the wider staff team and assist in promoting a culture of person-centred, least restrictive practice.
- Collect and analyze behavioural data (e.g., ABC charts, frequency counts) to inform interventions.
- Work directly with individuals, offering therapeutic and proactive support to promote communication, choice, and independence.
- Assist in delivering training and coaching to support staff regarding PBS principles and specific behaviour support plans.
- Completing debriefs both on an individual basis and within a group.
- Assist in the reporting to the Serious Incident Review panel, providing constructive and targeted analysis.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, contributing observations and data-driven insights.
- Maintain accurate and professional documentation in line with service policies and regulatory standards.
- Uphold and champion the rights, dignity, and choices of individuals at all times.
- Engage in ongoing learning, including completing formal PBS training modules, reflective practice, and regular supervision sessions.
Essential Criteria:
- Knowledge of Positive Behaviour Support principles or applied behaviour analysis (ABA).
- A strong commitment to working with individuals with learning disabilities, autism, and complex needs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to build positive, trusting relationships with individuals supported, families, professionals and colleagues.
- Reflective, compassionate, and open to feedback and learning.
- Organised, resilient, and able to manage multiple tasks with supervision.
- Basic understanding of safeguarding, least restrictive practice, and person-centred planning.
- Willingness to work flexibly, depending on the needs of the service.
- Willingness to complete recognized PBS training and work towards formal qualifications where appropriate.
- Foundation knowledge of Positive behaviour support principles.
Desirable Criteria:
- Previous experience (paid or voluntary) in a social care, education, or healthcare setting supporting individuals with learning disabilities or autism.
- Working towards or willing to work towards a qualification in Health and Social Care, Psychology, Education, or a related field.
- Familiarity with data collection and basic behavioral analysis.
- Relevant Degree or professional qualification.
The role will typically work within a shift pattern, inclusive of weekend and evening work. The shifts are typically 8 am to 8 pm, but can be adjusted for service need.
Location: The role is will be considered multi-based, working primarily across our Specialist Residential Services, Enhanced Residential Service, Training center and other service types dependent on individual need.

- Some night shift if required by the service and deemed necessary by the postholder.
- On call on rotation with and extra wage incentive for PBS intervention only.
