Port Operator

Forth Ports Limited
Falkirk, Scotland
Full time

Forth Ports is one of the UK's largest and most dynamic port operator groups, playing a key role in connecting the UK with Europe and beyond. As a multimodal ports owner and operator, we are at the forefront of delivering innovative port-related services. With our recent pledge to achieve carbon neutrality by 2032 and Net Zero status by 2042, we are committed to sustainability and driving the expansion of the UK's renewable energy sector, particularly offshore wind. Now is an exciting time to join our team as we embark on this transformative journey towards a greener future.

About The Role

We are seeking to strengthen our skilled Port Operations team by recruiting an enthusiastic and committed Port Operator to work a constant weekend night shift pattern.

After your initial training period which will involve working Monday to Friday day shift (approximately 4 weeks), you will work 3 x 12 hour night shifts, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 33 hours per week.

Plant driving is a major part of the role, and you will be trained to drive port plant equipment including straddle carriers, forklifts and tugs.

Our working environment comprises warehouses, quaysides or the hold of ships. Your main duties will be loading and discharging ships and a range of other tasks associated with cargo handling, warehousing and distribution.

What are we looking for?

  • Although specialist in-house training will be provided, you should have some plant driving experience and a valid forklift truck licence.
  • Good numeracy and basic IT skills.
  • Previous shift working experience is preferred due to the nightshift requirements of this role.
  • You must be available to work regular overtime to align with the dynamic operational demands of our business.
  • A full driving licence, valid in the UK, and you will also need to meet Group 2 driver medical fitness standards.
  • Right to work in the UK.

It is important to us that you are a good team member, who is also able to work independently. You will need to think critically, analyse situations and develop practical solutions to overcome obstacles, minimise delays and maintain operational efficiency.

The Port environment is fast paced and busy so you must also be able to demonstrate a really good understanding of the importance of Health and Safety in a heavily industrialised setting.

What Forth Ports can offer you?

At Forth Ports, our people are our priority, and we are committed to creating a flexible, open, and supportive working culture. As part of our team, you will enjoy:

  • A competitive salary
  • Generous annual leave entitlement
  • A defined pension scheme and life assurance
  • A structured Port Operator training programme
  • Health promotion events and employee wellbeing initiatives
  • Access to our Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) for you and your family
  • Cycle to work scheme and on-site free parking
  • Attractive Family Friendly Policies
  • Employee discount platform offering discounts on UK-wide restaurants, car rentals, and holidays
  • GymFlex health club memberships

We value diversity and inclusivity, and we are an equal opportunities employer. We welcome applications from candidates of all backgrounds and will consider all applications for employment without regard to race, colour, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, or disability status.
