Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Phlebotomist to join our healthcare team. The successful candidate will be responsible for collecting blood samples from patients, ensuring a high standard of patient care and safety. This role requires a thorough understanding of anatomy and physiology, as well as the ability to work effectively in a hospital or laboratory setting. The Phlebotomist will play a vital role in supporting diagnostic testing and patient management.
Responsibilities
- Perform venepuncture and capillary blood collection with precision and care.
- Ensure the correct identification of patients prior to sample collection.
- Maintain aseptic technique throughout the blood collection process.
- Prepare and label specimens accurately for laboratory analysis.
- Document all procedures performed and maintain patient records in compliance with medical standards.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to provide optimal patient care, particularly in paediatric cases.
- Adhere to health and safety regulations, including infection control protocols.
- Assist in the training of new staff or interns in phlebotomy techniques and procedures.
Skills
- Proficient in phlebotomy techniques with a strong understanding of anatomy and physiology.
- Knowledgeable in medical terminology relevant to laboratory practices.
- Experience working within a hospital or clinical environment is advantageous.
- Familiarity with basic life support principles is preferred.
- Ability to catheterise patients when necessary, demonstrating compassion and professionalism.
- Strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with patients of all ages, including children.
- Attention to detail and the ability to follow strict protocols to ensure patient safety.
