Are you ready to navigate and unlock limitless opportunities within the dynamic dry bulk freight market? At RWE Supply & Trading (RWEST), we’re looking for an entrepreneurial Panamax Freight Trader to join our Freight Trading Desk. This is your chance to play a pivotal role in managing and optimising RWEST’s global freight portfolio, with a particular focus on agricultural freight markets.
Our desk is at the forefront of dry bulk freight exposure, leveraging a mix of physical and financial trading strategies to drive commercial success. With a strong emphasis on innovation, collaboration, and impact, you’ll be perfectly placed to shape our Panamax & Supramax trading book.
About the role
- Develop and optimise the Panamax & Supramax trading book, with a particular focus on agricultural freight products.
- Analyse the agricultural freight markets to develop market views, and apply these insights in risk-taking activities.
- Evaluate physical vessels and construct freight rates for new routes.
- Price physical voyage freight for internal and external counterparties using derivative and physical markets.
- Negotiate and charter physical freight contracts
- Provide dedicated trading support to RWEST’s Physical Grain Desk Maintain seamless collaboration across departments such as Risk Control, Coal Trading, Biomass Trading, and Back Office to enable integrated decision-making and trading synergies.

Job requirements and experiences
- A robust track record of successful Panamax trading (at least three years of experience), complemented by resilience to evolve and develop RWEST’s book further.
- Advanced understanding of grain products and routes.
- Comprehensive knowledge of spot and forward markets, liquidity, volatility, arbitrage, swaps, counterparty credit and contract issues.
- Proven risk management skills with a track record of balancing effective risk mitigation and capturing growth opportunities.
- Strong numerical, IT, and analytical problem-solving skills, combined with sharp attention to detail.
- Existing relationships within the physical freight market, with a particular focus on grain-related customers.
- Collaborate with empathy, build trust, and contribute knowledge to strengthen teamwork across departments, complemented by the ability to work independently.
- Show entrepreneurial spirit by exploring bold ideas, making informed decisions with confidence, and driving initiatives with energy and purpose. Move seamlessly from strategy to action, ensuring measurable outcomes that support business and trading goals.

Advantageous, but not essential
- Familiarity with Endur and IMOS risk and freight reporting systems. Quantitative modelling skills to forecast and act on market trends.
