Position Overview:
We are currently seeking another skilled and motivated Painter/Shot Blaster to join our growing workshop team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and coating metal components and fabricated steelwork, ensuring surfaces are treated to high industry standards. The role will also involve helping with goods in as required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare surfaces for painting by shot blasting to remove rust, scale, and old coatings.
- Apply primer and topcoat paints to metal components using airless spray and conventional spraying techniques.
- Perform masking, taping, and protection of surfaces as required.
- Inspect and ensure quality standards are met for surface preparation and paint finish.
- Operate and maintain painting and blasting equipment in accordance with safety and operational guidelines.
- Mix and thin paints to the correct viscosity as per specification sheets.
- Handle and store paint materials safely in compliance with COSHH regulations.
- Work from technical drawings and job specifications.
- Always maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Support other workshop activities when required.
Requirements:
- Proven experience in industrial painting and shot blasting (preferably in a heavy engineering or fabrication environment).
- Knowledge of paint systems including epoxy, polyurethane, and zinc-rich primers.
- Understanding of surface preparation standards (e.g., SA 2.5, SA 3).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Awareness of health and safety standards in a workshop environment.
- Forklift or overhead crane experience is advantageous (training can be provided).
- Flexibility to work overtime when required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- ICATS or TTP certification (not essential but desirable).
- COSHH awareness.
- Experience working to ISO or similar quality standards.
