Job Title: Outreach and Support Volunteer
Hours: 25 hours per week
Purpose of Role:
To engage with homeless individuals in the community, offering them food, essential items, and information about available support services, while fostering trust and providing compassionate, person-centred care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Take part in regular outreach walks to distribute food, water, and warm clothing to people experiencing homelessness.
- Build positive, empathetic relationships with vulnerable individuals, providing a listening ear and basic emotional support.
- Identify any urgent welfare or safeguarding concerns and report them promptly to the charity’s outreach team.
- Help organise and deliver weekly outreach events and mobile food drives in designated areas.
- Support the collection, packing, and preparation of outreach supplies.
Person Specification:
- Friendly, empathetic, and non-judgemental with a genuine concern for vulnerable people.
- Confident in approaching and engaging with members of the public.
- Good verbal communication and listening skills.
- Reliable and able to commit to regular outreach shifts.
- Experience of working with vulnerable groups is helpful but not essential — full training will be provided.
