Our facility at Southleigh Stables provides meaningful learning, welfare and enterprise opportunities through equine facilitated learning sessions, small animal welfare, and nature-based activities. Our farm setting supports young people with diverse needs in developing confidence, independence, and life skills in a nurturing outdoor environment.
Summary
We are seeking a proactive, compassionate, and organised Outdoor Learning Co-ordinator to support the day-to-day running of our inclusive educational farm. This vital role ensures the smooth coordination of farm activities, animal care routines, and support for educational/welfare sessions. You will play a key role in maintaining a safe and stimulating environment for young people, animals, and staff alike.
Responsibilities
Farm Operations & Animal Welfare:
- Oversee daily care routines for equine and small animals (feeding, cleaning, welfare checks).
- Support and coordinate maintenance of farm areas, ensuring all facilities are clean, safe, and operational.
- Monitor animal health and liaise with vets or specialists when needed.
- Maintain accurate records of animal health and farm maintenance.
Learning Programme Support:
- Assist in setting up and facilitating equine learning sessions, small animal interactions, and forest school activities.
- Ensure learning spaces are prepared, safe, and resourced.
- Work closely with educators, therapists, and support staff to adapt activities for a range of SEND needs.
Coordination & Communication:
- Manage weekly and daily schedules for farm routines, working alongside staff and volunteers.
- Liaise with external stakeholders including suppliers, contractors, and visiting professionals.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety, safeguarding, and welfare policies.
Staff & Volunteer Support:
- Supervise and support leads and volunteers, providing training and daily guidance.
- Act as a key point of contact for staff on operational matters during the working day.
Teamwork & Safeguarding:
- Work closely with teaching staff, therapists, and volunteers to ensure a cohesive and supportive experience.
- Follow safeguarding procedures and health and safety policies at all times.
- Report concerns and incidents appropriately and promptly.
Person Specification
Essential:
- Strong organisational and communication skills.
- Confident in outdoor work, physically fit, and comfortable with manual tasks.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Commitment to safeguarding and inclusive practice.
- A willingness to learn.
- Clearance of an enhanced DBS Check.
- Driving licence and access to transport.
Desirable:
- Experience working with horses and poultry.
- Experience working with or supporting young adults and children with SEND.
- Relevant qualifications in animal care, equine studies, or education.
- First Aid and/or Safeguarding certification.
- Experience in a similar educational or therapeutic setting.
- Knowledge of forest school principles or outdoor learning.
