Job summary
His Majestys Naval Base Clyde (HMNB Clyde) is home to the United Kingdoms Strategic Nuclear Deterrent, Astute Class Attack Submarines, First Mine Counter Measure Squadron and 43 Cdo Royal Marines. It is an operational support and maintenance base, within the Navy Command TLB and comprises both Faslane and Coulport sites. HMNB Clydes primary purpose is to provide engineering and logistical support to the Royal Navy in maintaining Continuous at Sea Deterrent (CASD). This is achieved by ensuring at least one Vanguard Class submarine is on patrol at sea every day of the year.
RNAD Coulport is responsible for the storage, processing, maintenance and issue of the Trident Weapon System and the ammunitioning of all submarine-embarked tactical weapons. Job description
- The Assistant Kings Harbour Master is accountable to the Deputy Kings Harbour Master for the execution of their duties and responsibilities.
- To be the lead and manage the KHM Command and Control Systems.
- To manage Information and Quality Management, both documentary and IT systems, to support Port Operations and to ensure accurate records are maintained
- Partake in the review of marine risk assessments
- To be the focal point and manage the KHM external website.
- To be the Duty KHM, Duty Tier 3 Oil Spill Response Incident Commander and the KHM Command Team Member for NERO Incidents for the periods required and to be at 1 hours notice to return to Port Operations.
- To be the lead for business continuity.
- To attend internal committees as required.
- To liaise with the MDP CMU on the operations of CMU vessels in the Dockyard Port and adjacent waters.
- To be the lead for Port familiarisation training for all relevant stakeholders.
- To be KHMs representative on appropriate local marine forums.

Successful candidates can discuss their development options with their manager when in post.
Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working. This is a non-contractual arrangement where all office-based employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in office, subject to capacity and any required workplace adjustments. Requirements to attend other locations for official business, or work in another MOD office, will also count towards this level of attendance. The post does not offer relocation expenses.
External recruits who join the MOD who are new to the Civil Service will be subject to a six-month probation period.
