Job Title: Medical Secretary
Location: Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust
Hours: Wed pm-Thur/Fri 19 hours per week hours between 09:00 –20:00

What you’ll be responsible for:
- Provide a comprehensive secretarial service to the Consultant and Junior Medical Staff with the support of the Medical PA. To ensure an effective and efficient use of the secretarial services.
- Maintain the Consultant’s diary arranging appointments with hospital staff, patients and relatives
- Provide information to patients regarding appointments and admissions.
- Accurately record all telephone messages ensuring that action is taken appropriately.
- To receive, prioritise and distribute mail accordingly
- To deal with initial queries and complaints from patients and relatives either from wards or regarding appointment changes, with the support of the Medical PA.
- To ensure all New Patient Referrals are passed on to the appropriate department promptly, ensuring all Urgent referrals are dealt with in accordance with the Two Week Wait Policy.
- Provide secretarial support to out-patient clinics at the Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and follow-up action as required by the Consultant following ward rounds. Ensure that all relevant investigations and information are available prior to clinic attendance.
You’ll learn the following whilst working at the trust:
· An in depth understanding of the roles and responsibilities involved in working within the NHS
· Knowledge of the systems used, to effectively complete your role to the highest standard at all times
· A sense of teamwork, gained through working alongside and supporting colleagues from all levels, within the organisation
You’ll have the following skills/experience:
· NHS experience
· Previous medical secretary experience
- Typing or equivalent experience
- Diary management
- Excellent communication skills- both verbal and written
This role may require you to show evidence of vocational level 3 qualification or at least 2 years relevant experience.
