About OAK Community Development
OAK Community Development is committed to empowering communities, tackling inequality, and promoting wellbeing through inclusive, culturally sensitive services. Our My Skillset Project supports individuals—especially from ethnic minority backgrounds—who are furthest from the labour market to develop confidence, skills, and pathways into employment, training, or further learning.
About the Role
We’re looking for a motivated and compassionate Employment & Skills Support Worker to join our My Skillset delivery team. You’ll be at the heart of supporting individuals to build their confidence, improve basic skills, and take positive steps toward employment, volunteering, or further education.
You will work one-to-one and in small groups, delivering tailored support, engaging activities, and employability workshops (e.g. CV writing, interview prep, digital skills), while helping remove practical barriers like language, confidence, or access to services.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage and build trusting relationships with participants referred to the project.
- Complete initial assessments and co-produce personal action plans with clear progression goals.
- Deliver or coordinate short courses, skills workshops, and informal learning sessions (in partnership with WEA and other providers).
- Support participants in accessing volunteering, training, and employment opportunities.
- Work collaboratively with local partners, training providers, and employers to build referral pathways.
- Maintain accurate records of engagement, attendance, outcomes and impact for monitoring and reporting purposes.
- Provide regular feedback and contribute to project development and evaluations.
Person Specification
Essential:
- Experience working with adults facing barriers to employment or learning.
- Understanding of the challenges faced by ethnically diverse communities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Organised, proactive, and able to manage your own workload.
- Able to work flexibly, including occasional evenings/weekends for community events.
- Commitment to equality, diversity, and empowering service users.
Desirable:
- Experience of delivering workshops or informal learning sessions.
- Understanding of ESOL needs and/or employability programmes.
- Lived experience or deep community insight would be welcomed.
- Knowledge of safeguarding and data protection practices.
What We Offer
- A supportive and inclusive working environment
- Opportunities for personal development and training
- Flexibility around working hours and family-friendly policies
- Opportunity to make a real impact in the lives of local people
