Key Duties
- Produce regular and one-off data reports and analysis of information, both quantitative and qualitative, from a range of internal and external data sources.
- To become an expert in Higher Education market data (including HESA, UCAS, tuition fee datasets etc.).
- Produce data and market information in a way that is clear and easy to interpret for different audiences, to ensure an evidenced based approach to student recruitment activity and degree programme portfolio development.
- Use technical skills and appropriate tools and datasets (e.g. Excel, Power BI and Online Surveys to extract, clean and develop data from internal and external sources (including data profiling to uncover anomalies prior to data analysis).
- Undertake desk-based competitor, market and industry horizon scanning to ensure that decisions made regarding our portfolio and student recruitment activity are informed by the wider market context.
- Identify patterns and trends. Perform data intensive analysis through informed data mining and associated data research methods (primarily using Excel and Power BI) to uncover relationships between data entities and identify market potential and viability.
- Support the running of corporate marketing surveys such as the Applicant Survey.
- Establish working relationships with key contacts, developing appropriate communication links with the University’s Schools and College teams.
- Collaborate with colleagues in the Market Insight team to make recommendations for improvements to established processes and procedures.
- Plan and deliver specific small-scale projects, co-ordinating and supervising project teams created on an occasional basis. Create specific working groups from colleagues across the University to achieve objectives.
- Contribute, where appropriate, to general marketing activities within the University as part of the Communications and Marketing team.
- Instruct and guide other employees across the University on market analysis practices as required.
- Undertake a variety of administrative duties to support the department.
- Undertake quality checking of analysis prepared by Market Insight colleagues and when appropriate, by other members of the Cardiff Data Professionals community.
- Ensure that an understanding of the importance of confidentiality is applied when undertaking all duties.

- Degree/NVQ 4 or equivalent Professional membership/experience.
- Excellent numeracy and data manipulation and analysis skills, with clear attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills (both written and oral).
- Experience of research and analysis.
- Ability to specify, design, build and cleanse quantitative data sets.
- Ability to demonstrate confidence in analysis and interpretation of quantitative data sets.
- Ability to communicate conceptually detailed and complex information effectively and professionally with a wide range of people.
- Evidence of ability to explore customers’ needs and adapt the service accordingly to ensure a quality service is delivered.
- Evidence of ability to solve expansive problems using initiative and creativity; identifying and proposing practical solutions and resolving problems with range of potential outcomes.
- Evidence of ability to work unsupervised to deadlines, planning and setting priorities for own work and that of others and monitoring progress.
- Experience of using Excel
