SANDWELL WEST BIRMINGHAM HOSPITALS NHS TRUST

HEART FAILURE and DEVICES FELLOW IN CARDIOLOGY

Applications are invited for two Clinical Fellow positions in Cardiology:

Clinical Fellow role specialising in Heart Failure and Devices. This position offers advanced training in heart failure management (both medical therapies and device therapies) and pacemaker implantation, along with exposure to general cardiology. It is ideally suited for trainees who have completed their core cardiology training and are seeking higher specialist training in heart failure and device therapy. Support is available for those pursuing CESR (Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration) entry to the GMC specialist register.

Both fellows will be involved in the registrar-of-the-week rota for inpatient care and will participate in the cardiology on-call service, including assisting with primary PCI procedures.

The Cardiology Unit at Midland Metropolitan University Hospital is fully equipped for advanced interventional procedures, bradycardia pacing, complex device implantation, and sophisticated imaging techniques such as complex echocardiography, CT coronary angiography, and cardiac MRI. These posts are suitable for candidates seeking to strengthen their experience in preparation for securing a National Training Number (NTN) or completing the CESR pathway.

The department includes 16 full-time Consultant Cardiologists and 2 Professors of Cardiology, with strong academic and research collaborations with Birmingham University and Aston University. More information about our activities can be found on our website.

Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust (SWB) serves Birmingham and the Black Country – one of the country’s most culturally diverse areas. It’s a friendly and welcoming place – a place where you can belong, and a place where you can grow.

We care for our patients, we care about our population, and we care about our people.

Our values – Ambition, Respect and Compassion – are at the heart of who we are. They guide us every step of the way; how we work with each other, and how we look after our patients and their families; how we respect and value the rich diversity of our team and our community.

Our Trust has always aspired to be more than a hospital, more than a healthcare provider. Our purpose is to “Improve the Life Chances and Health Outcomes of our Population.” It is what inspires, drives, and unites us every day. It’s what makes us unique.

We want working at SWB to feel like more than just a job. We want our Trust to be a place where you can feel you belong. A place where you feel happy, safe, and rewarded. A place where you can develop your career in whatever way you choose. When we say we’re ‘with you all the way’ we want you to know that we mean it. Visit the SWB website to find out more about our ambitions and people plans.

The posts are for a period of one year. Informal enquiries for this post should be made to Dr Fairoz Abdul ( 0121 507 5813 ) or Dr Vinoda Sharma (0121 507 2499).

Any candidate who, for personal reasons, is unable to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post. For further information regarding the trust, please visit our website
