We’re looking for a proactive and hands-on Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Officer to join our team based in Ayr on an 18-month fixed-term contract. While this role is primarily a maternity cover, it will also support wider divisional needs, the remit may extend across the Northwest, and travel may be required.
This is a high-visibility, front-line role. You’ll be actively engaging with marine, engineering, and operational teams on-site, providing real-time support and guidance to ensure safety and environmental standards are upheld.
Key Responsibilities
- Champion a proactive safety culture across local ports
- Provide expert guidance on HSE policies, risk assessments, and safe systems of work
- Coach and challenge managers to improve HSE capability
- Deliver divisional safety campaigns and environmental initiatives
- Manage and report safety and environmental incidents using SAP
- Conduct incident investigations and produce actionable reports
- Perform internal audits and support HSE committee meetings
- Contribute to net-zero environmental targets and sustainability efforts
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
- NEBOSH National General Certificate (or equivalent Level 3 qualification)
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Experience in health and safety within a safety-critical environment
- Proficiency in HSE systems (e.g., SAP) and data analysis
- Ability to conduct audits and investigations independently
- Flexible and responsive to operational demands
Desirable:
- ISO Auditor certification (e.g., ISO 45001, ISO 14001)
- Experience in sustainability and environmental impact reduction
- Expertise in behavioural safety programmes
- Proven ability to manage relationships with external authorities
