The Role
The organisation is seeking a motivated and methodical Health and Safety Advisor to join its team, supporting health and safety compliance and fostering a culture of continuous improvement across its two Oxfordshire sites.
Working closely with the H&S Manager and wider operational teams, the successful candidate will engage in a wide variety of activities ranging from site inspections and risk assessments to audits, training and reporting. There is a strong emphasis on staff engagement, mentoring, and collaborative working across office, lab and workshop environments.
This is a site-based role requiring travel between two nearby locations, so access to a vehicle and a full UK driving licence are essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and promote high standards of health and safety in a dynamic technical environment
- Foster a positive safety culture through proactive engagement and support across all departments
- Conduct risk assessments and review policies, procedures, signage and safety documentation
- Collaborate with engineering and technical teams to implement effective safety controls
- Participate in internal and external audits, inspections and compliance checks
- Lead or support incident and near-miss investigations and follow-up actions
- Develop and contribute to health and safety reports for leadership and external auditors
- Support and mentor junior H&S personnel and other staff involved in safety activities
- Identify opportunities for improvement in health and safety systems and practices
Essential Criteria
- NEBOSH General
- Confident communicator with proven influencing skills at all organisational levels
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Competent IT user, with proficiency in Microsoft Office tools
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel locally
Desirable Criteria
- Working knowledge of regulations including COSHH, DSEAR, ATEX and REACH
- Experience in assessing risks for industrial machinery and hazardous substances
- Familiarity with compliance areas such as LEV, pressure systems and water safety
- Line management or team leadership experience in a safety-related role
