HEAD OF TECHNOLOGY AND PRODUCT

Location: London HQ

Team: Technology

Reports to: CEO

About Us

Here at Beryl, we have a clear vision: to build a better world by getting more people in cities moving sustainably.

Our aim is to be the UK's leading micro-mobility company, delivering sustainable, shared schemes to UK communities. As the only B-Corp micromobility operator, we care about community, safety, the environment, and effective design. Beryl is growing nationally, and now is the most exciting time to join our team.

The Role

We’re looking for an experienced leader who thrives in a product-led, data-driven environment with real world impact. The role sits at the intersection of technology, product development, and operations, and is central to our continued growth building on a mature set of technologies with a strong customer base.

Our micromobility services operate through a combination of customer facing applications, physical technologies enabling thousands of journeys every day and management systems that keep our vehicles safe. This includes development of hardware, embedded and software engineering teams. We are looking for somebody with the experience to work across these areas, leading software engineering, industrial design and collaborating with manufacturing partners.

As Head of Technology and Product, you will lead the strategic direction of our digital and physical systems that power our vehicle share services. Working with the CIO you will make decisions across all aspects of engineering and development to deliver products that improve the performance of our schemes, and drive revenue growth.. You will ensure our technology underpins a seamless and scalable integration between our physical vehicles (bikes, e-scooters, and docking infrastructure) and the digital systems that manage and support them.

This is a high-impact leadership role that requires both strong technical depth and a sharp product instinct. You’ll be instrumental in shaping the future of our technology function as we expand across the UK and internationally.

Key Responsibilities

Define and lead the overall technology and product strategy, combining robust, scalable, and secure digital foundations with our connected physical hardware, supporting customer and operational needs.
  • Own the end-to-end software ecosystem, spanning mobile apps, APIs, backend services, data pipelines, cloud platforms, and internal tools.
  • Design and maintain modular, service-oriented systems that support rapid iteration and efficient operations across diverse markets.
  • Ensure tight integration between connected vehicle hardware and software systems, including data flows, firmware communication, and remote monitoring.
  • Drive data architecture and analytics strategy, embedding telemetry, real-time insight, and feedback loops into all areas of the platform.
  • Champion engineering best practices, DevOps culture, and continuous improvement across the technology team.

What We’re Looking For

  • 10+ years of experience in senior technology leadership or hybrid product/engineering roles, ideally within a software-led or connected hardware environment.
  • Demonstrable experience of working on complex engineering problems involving cross-functional interactions and deliverables
  • Familiarity of software systems design, data architecture, API development, and cloud infrastructure (e.g. AWS, GCP, or Azure).
  • Experience integrating IoT devices or embedded systems with large-scale digital platforms.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams in complex technical environments, particularly where physical products rely on digital infrastructure.
  • A strong product mindset - user-centred, commercially aware, and able to balance technical complexity with simplicity and usability.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills; experienced in working closely with non-technical stakeholders.
  • A thorough knowledge and experience of best practices in technical specifications, risk and issue management.
  • Track record of delivering complex products in fast-paced, high-growth organisations.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in micromobility, smart transport, IoT, or urban mobility platforms.
  • Familiarity with compliance, digital security, QA, and regulatory standards relevant to connected devices or transport systems.
  • Knowledge of real-time data streaming, event-driven architecture, and analytics infrastructure.
  • Background in consumer technology, mobility-as-a-service (MaaS), or other operational tech sectors.

What we are offering in return

  • The chance to build the business and help Beryl on our journey to become one of the biggest micromobility operators in the world.
  • 24 days of annual leave plus bank holidays
  • Birthday day off
  • Employer pension contributions
  • Enhanced parental leave
  • Employee assistance program (counselling support)
  • Annual learning and development budget
  • Cycle to work scheme - discounted bikes & accessories
  • Tech scheme - discounted technology and home products
  • Paid volunteer days
  • Discounted gym memberships across the UK
