The role
The Head of Landside Bussing is responsible for shaping and delivering the bussing network strategy across the Manchester Airport campus. The role is responsible for leading the development and execution of initiatives that enhance the entire customer journey, ensuring a seamless and positive experience from the moment customers enter the Manchester campus to the time they exit. This critical leadership role holds full responsibility for a large, diverse team of approx 187 front line and operational colleagues overseeing all aspects of the Landside Bussing and its impact on the remote car park experience on a 24/7 basis.
With a strong focus on people leadership, the role is central to shaping a high-performance culture that prioritises service excellence, operational resilience, and employee engagement. The postholder is responsible for setting clear performance standards, ensuring efficient resource deployment, and driving continuous improvement in line with customer expectations and business objectives across the Landside Bussing operation.
Operating with significant influence and visibility, the Head of Landside Bussing plays a key role in cost control, strategic planning, and cross-functional collaboration ensuring the bussing operation is delivered consistently and sustainably across the airport. The role holder will sponsor or embed major campus asset investments into BAU and own the strategic development of the bussing operations and customer experience strategies to enable Manchester Airports growth targets. They’ll also own critical third-party relationships including Transport Commission and National Highways, as well as being a key contributor to the oversight of the traffic management plans across the whole campus.
What will make me successful in the role?
We are looking for someone with experience leading a similar size and type of operation, with excellent leadership, management and decision-making skills with the ability to motivate teams, manage resources and make sound judgements in high-pressure situations. You’ll have experience leading service improvement and change strategies and empowered leadership in a complex stakeholder environment, along with experience in budgetary accountability and cost leadership. You’ll also be able to analyse complex situations, identify challenges and develop effective solutions, considering all angles and impacts on the whole operation.
