- To help develop a portfolio segment to appropriately conduct underwriting analysis on new and existing reinsurance business. Evaluates complex risks and exposures, pricing structures, rates, terms and conditions, in accordance with corporate guidelines and within given authority levels and help profitable Heavy Industries portfolio with appropriate balance in terms of geography, segmentation, limit profiles, and Natural Catastrophe accumulations
- Contributes to functional strategy development and prioritises operational deliverables and activities of team to support delivery of overall business targets
- Manages tactical plan and provides support to others to achieve positive results for the business in line with strategy
- Applies specific expertise to manage processes and workflow within the team, and is responsible for ensuring accuracy, efficiency, good practice and adherence to prescribed standards
- As a senior technical expert, is responsible for executing high value/highly complex transactions (making decisions within authority limits) to ensure that they are appropriately completed and that related records and systems are properly maintained
- Interprets, and helps to cascade organisation goals and regulatory/legislative requirements; and is responsible for monitoring functional activity, and application of Policy and Procedures, to ensure that compliance, effectiveness and risk management is optimised
- Extensive knowledge of relevant market conditions for specific class/portfolio; including insight into market analysis and key players that are relevant to the region of operation
- Knowledge of HI segment and areas of profit or concern
- General knowledge of Insurance sector and in particular Natural resources products
- Understanding of Reinsurance structures and purchasing.
- Key producers of HI business
- Deliver a business plan for profitability for HI segment
- Performance in line with overall NRC strategy
- Thorough knowledge of underwriting strategy and technical understanding of how this translates into targets and delivery
- Technical expertise and knowledge of Insurance and Expected Profitability Analysis (EPA) requirements for specific portfolio/product line
- Deep understanding of the reinsurance strategy affecting portfolio/product line
- Extensive knowledge of relevant underwriting systems and processes
- Has subject matter expertise in risk profiling, pricing tools and loss models; and knows when and how to apply these to their role
- Technical expertise and knowledge in relation to legal and regulatory requirements (specific reference to FCA/Lloyds regulation)
- Strong level of numeracy and literacy skills
- Experience of managing underwriting individuals/teams with relevant subject matter expertise
- Is experienced in resolving complex underwriting queries
- Degree level education (or equivalent) and relevance of degree subject to role is expected.
- It is also expected that the incumbent is ACII (or equivalent) qualified or they have gained professional qualifications that are specific to relevant class of business/product line (such as CPCU)
- They will have completed the Lloyds & London Market test (where relevant).
