About The Role
The Head of Fraud will lead and enhance our fraud prevention, detection and management capabilities through a data-driven and strategic approach. This role will be pivotal in shaping and executing the fraud and financial crime strategy, working cross-functionally with data, technology, product, operations and compliance teams to ensure robust, scalable frameworks are in place. The role will also directly lead all aspects of fraud operations – ensuring that we rapidly assess and manage fraud and financial crime, and provide excellent
support to Customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute the fraud and financial crime strategy.
- Manage the end-to-end fraud and financial crime lifecycle – from prevention and detection to investigation, reporting, and recovery.
- Take ownership of end to end fraud operational functions, including investigations, SAR reviews, and suspicious activity escalation.
- Implement and optimise fraud tools, analytics, transaction monitoring, and machine learning models.
- Lead the design of policies, controls, and frameworks to detect and prevent fraud, AML, PEPs and sanctions breaches (in collaboration with the MLRO.
- Stay ahead of emerging risks, including for example money mules, synthetic identity, account takeover, and digital payment fraud.
- Drive continuous improvement of processes and controls, working closely with teams and across the business.
- Ensure adherence to regulatory frameworks and maintain audit readiness.
- Act as a key contact for external partners including regulators, law enforcement, and industry bodies.
About You
We’re seeking a dynamic and experienced leader who can drive our fraud prevention and detection efforts forward. You’ll be someone who thrives off solving complex problems with simple solutions. You get how to use data and automation to create scalable solutions that get things right for customers, and effectively manage fraud and financial crime risks and losses.
The successful candidate must have the right to work in the UK and meet the following criteria:
- Fraud Expert status: 10+ years’ experience in fraud prevention and financial crime within fintech, payments, or banking, with a major in credit cards and consumer lending.
- Proven ability to lead high-performing teams across both fraud strategy and operational functions.
- Strong working knowledge of fraud typologies (e.g. scam fraud, social engineering, ID fraud) and key regulations. Keen interest in fraud trends and active within fraud industry to keep on top of trends.
- Confident in working with fraud detection systems, transaction monitoring tools, and behavioural analytics
- Hands-on experience with fraud data analysis, alerting, and automation..
- Operational leadership experience across new business screening, case management, investigations, SARs, and fraud chargebacks.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and decision-making skills. Has the ability to communicate. complex matters effectively with senior leaders / investors right through to fraud agents.
- Strong analytical mindset, comfortable working with data and directing link analysis.
- Highly resilient, with can do nature. Some who thrives on overcoming obstacles and making things happen no matter how tough the task. Leaving things way better than how you found them is where you’re at.
Desired:
- Experience of designing, implementing and optimising strategy, policies and processes within in a fintech
environment. - Experience of using gen AI / Agentic AI to automate and enhance fraud monitoring, customer journeys and fraud workflows.
