  • Head of Financial Planning and Analysis - Job Profile.docx
    (Word, 303.93kb)

Our purpose is simple: to save lives at sea.

From rescue and supervision to education and prevention, the RNLI is a trusted and vital presence across the UK and Ireland. Behind every rescue is a network of dedicated professionals ensuring we remain financially sustainable, efficient, and ready to respond - now and in the future.

We’re looking for a Head of Financial Planning and Analysis to lead this critical function. This is more than a finance role - it’s an opportunity to shape the financial future of one of the UK’s most respected charities, ensuring every pound raised is used to maximum effect.

Your impact:

As a key member of the Finance and Corporate Services leadership team, you will:

  • Lead the RNLI’s financial planning activities, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial modelling.
  • Provide expert financial insight to support strategic decision-making across the organisation.
  • Manage and inspire a team of finance professionals and business partners to deliver high-quality analysis and reporting.
  • Collaborate closely with the CFO and senior leaders to shape and deliver the RNLI’s financial strategy.
  • Drive continuous improvement in financial processes, systems, and reporting to enhance efficiency and transparency.

What you bring:

  • A recognised accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with significant post-qualification experience in FP&A or commercial finance.
  • A proven track record in financial planning, complex modelling, and business partnering within a large or complex organisation.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to develop and motivate high-performing teams.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to influence at Executive and Board level.
  • A proactive, strategic mindset with the ability to balance detail with big-picture thinking.

Why join the RNLI?

This is your chance to apply your financial expertise in a role with real purpose. You’ll be part of a values-driven organisation where your work directly supports saving lives. We offer a supportive and inclusive culture, opportunities for professional development, and the satisfaction of knowing your work makes a difference every day.

Ready to lead with purpose?

Apply now and help shape the financial future of a lifesaving organisation.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore any offer of employment will be subject to an enhanced criminal records check.

This post is subject to clearance of a finance check - satisfactory to the RNLI.

Diversity at the RNLI

Our staff and volunteers have been saving lives at sea without prejudice for 200 years. We respect and value diversity of background, skills and perspectives within our teams, and consider it essential to help us deliver a world-class lifesaving service. We are an inclusive organisation and welcome applications from everyone. In addition to having the skills needed for the role, we also look for applicants who share our commitment to living our RNLI values (trustworthy, courageous, selfless, and dependable), and helping us work towards Our Vision: To save Every One.
