Head of Controls Oversight & Assurance

A bit about the job:
This role is pivotal in delivering a successful first line controls reporting function across Aviva Investors. It plays a key part in the production of the AAF Internal Controls Report and provides direct support to the Aviva Investors COO function. The successful candidate will lead on reporting and controls matters, represent the team at high-level meetings including the Audit Committee, Executive Committee, Operations Oversight Committee, Governance & Controls forum, and with external auditors. Responsibilities include preparing papers for senior committees, delivering quarterly Conduct Risk Reporting, and ensuring all key deadlines are met. The role involves chairing risk and process owner meetings with senior stakeholders, supporting the team and line manager in managing critical deliverables, and embedding a strong risk and controls culture across the business. The candidate will partner with the business to support issue identification and resolution, controls testing, risk assessments, and SOP governance. They will also manage the Controls Operations team, including performance appraisals and work scheduling, oversee the IT Controls Assurance testing conducted by Grant Thornton, and contribute to planning, training, board papers, and ad-hoc analysis. The role also includes undertaking special projects as required.
Skills and experience we’re looking for:
- Qualified ACA/ACCA with significant experience in a control, risk, or audit environment
- Ability to clearly articulate approach and, through appropriate networking, to secure full stakeholder support and action
- Strong analytical and presentation skills
- Leadership skills to motivate and inspire team members
- Proactive and articulate individual, comfortable with dealing with a range of colleagues to the most senior level
