Grounds Operative

As a Grounds Operative with Sodexo, you'll enhance the services of our vibrant corporate site, offering a helping hand to ensure flawless facilities operations and keep things running smoothly.
What you'll do:
- Mow lawns, trim edges, and maintain borders
- Perform weeding and weed control (manual or chemical)
- Clear leaves, litter, and dispose of waste
- Empty outdoor bins and keep the site clean
- Plant, water, and maintain flowers, shrubs, and trees
- Prune hedges and greenery as needed
- Check irrigation systems and apply mulch or soil conditioner
- Assist with seasonal planting and replanting
- Sweep paths, roads, and courtyards
- Inspect and report damage to fences, gates, and outdoor furniture
- Support biodiversity and sustainability initiatives
- Provide snow and ice gritting in winter (Nov–March)
- Support operations during adverse weather
- Attend daily briefings and develop skills to assist the Grounds Manager
- Operate and maintain grounds machinery safely
- Conduct safety checks and ensure proper equipment storage
- Be trained to drive Sodexo vehicles and machinery
- Follow health and safety protocols and report hazards
- Ensure contractor compliance with safety standards
- Respond professionally to client requests and maintain a respectful attitude
What you'll bring:
- Horticulture or groundskeeping experience and qualifications preferred
- Valid driving license; willing to train on site vehicles
- Knowledge of health and safety, COSHH, and sustainability
- Attention to detail; able to identify and report issues
- Clear communication with clients, team, and contractors
- Reliable; work well independently or in a team
- Skilled in planting, pruning, weed control, and equipment use
- Basic admin skills for reporting and coordination
- Good listening skills; able to follow procedures and safety standards
