We are looking for a knowledgeable and experienced person to help with the upkeep and management of a private 25 acre property near Newbury. Position available immediately.
The property comprises a private residence and offices, landscaped gardens, yard, paddocks and water meadows and woodland. It is home to animals including 8 horses and chickens. There is a large vegetable garden, greenhouses, swimming pool, a variety of managed hedges, and a chalk stream.
Responsibilities include the general upkeep and maintenance of all the above facilities. This position is therefore very varied and will require a person who:
- Enjoys all aspects of general gardening, lawn mowing, planting, pruning etc
- Has general maintenance capabilities, including fence repair, equipment maintenance, painting etc
- Is comfortable around animals, in particular horses, but also dogs and chickens. Feeding of horses is done throughout winter.
- Use and maintenance of farm and gardening machinery, including a small tractor, ride-on lawn mower, hedge cutter, strimmer, hedge ladders etc. Previous experience is preferred , however, training and safety procedures provided where needed.
- Chainsaw ticket will be useful but not essential.
- Seasonal activities include hedge cutting, field maintenance (topping, rolling, harrowing), and river bank management.
- Must be physically capable and willing to work outdoors throughout the year, even in cold wet winter conditions.
- Must be punctual and reliable, able to take instructions, but also self-motivated and able to apply own initiative where needed.
- This position offers the potential for someone to suggest and apply their own ideas for future projects, such as landscaping and planting.
Previous work references essential for a successful application.
