Are you a talented researcher in Computer Science/Artificial Intelligence with a passion for outreach and an interest in antimicrobial resistance?

About the role

Are you a talented researcher in Computer Science/Artificial Intelligence with a demonstrable passion for outreach and an interest in antimicrobial resistance?

This new Fellowship on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is part of Google DeepMind's Academic Fellowship Programme, which aims to support groundbreaking postdoctoral research in Computer Science and AI.

This post is hosted in collaboration with the Fleming Initiative, an exciting new partnership between Imperial College London and Imperial College NHS Trust combining research, behaviour change, public engagement, and policy to provide real-world solutions to AMR.

AMR occurs when microbes such as bacteria and fungi adapt and become resistant to the drugs we use to kill them and treat infections. Such drug-resistant infections have the potential to become a global humanitarian crisis, responsible for at least 8 million lives lost yearly by 2050.

What you would be doing

The appointed fellow will be encouraged to pursue any research direction they wish at the intersection of AI and antimicrobial resistance (AMR).

You will be expected to work collaboratively with researchers in AMR, as well as those within your own discipline, developing the interdisciplinary capabilities needed to tackle any aspect of this global threat. The former may include; physicians, pharmacists, epidemiologists and/or behavioural scientists depending on the scope of your proposed project.

You will also be expected to develop and deliver outreach activities around Computing/AI as well as participating in a range of public-facing engagement activities run by the Fleming Initiative.

What we are looking for

An outstanding researcher in AI/Computer Science with a demonstrable interest and understanding of the global threat of AMR

A strong role model able to encourage participation in Computer Science and AI with evidence of commitment to outreach

The ability and skills to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary and multiprofessional environment to devise and deliver a programme of impactful research

Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills able to bridge the gap between disciplines and between academic and public audiences.

What we can offer you

The opportunity to continue your career at a world-leading institution, based within an outstanding Computer Science department and the exciting new Fleming Initiative. · Be part of a diverse, inclusive and collaborative work culture with various staff networks and resources to support your personal and professional wellbeing. · Grow your career: gain access to Imperial’s sector-leading dedicated career support for researchers as well as opportunities for promotion and progression.

Sector-leading salary and remuneration package (including 39 days off a year and generous pension schemes).

Further information

This is a full-time post (not less than 35 hours per week).

This role is for a fixed-term contract for 3 years.
