We're looking for a motivated and reliable individual to join our team as a General Duties Porter on a casual basis. This hands-on role involves supporting University events, departmental relocations and office moves, moving furniture, furnishings and equipment. General Porters are also responsible for disposal of hazardous, confidential, and general waste in line with relevant procedures.
You'll also help set up and break down rooms across the campus for teaching, exams, events, banquets, conferences, and student activities. This includes laying flooring and safely assembling staging, display boards, tables, and chairs based on room layout plans. A strong understanding of safe manual handling techniques and working in line with health and safety procedures is essential. We are looking for someone who can demonstrate good logistical planning and good understanding/interpretation of events plans and requests.
A key part of the role involves driving a Transit or Luton-sized van, loading/unloading and transporting furniture and equipment across the campus and occasionally beyond. This includes;
- Collection/Delivery service for post campus wide.
- Collection/Disposal of all waste streams.
- Furniture removals and storage
- Setup of events on and off campus.
You'll be working both independently and as part of a team, often making logistical decisions on the ground in line with health and safety, fire, and environmental regulations.
Excellent customer service and communication skills are essential. You will often be working in occupied spaces or assisting staff, students, or visitors during moves or events, and we are looking for someone who is approachable, professional, and able to communicate clearly and respectfully.
