Vacancy: Freelance Specialist Mentor and Study Skills Tutor (Autism)
Locations: Liverpool Edge Hill University
Hourly Rate: £30–£35 (dependent on support type)
Contract Type: Freelance / Self-employed
Hours Available: Part Time / Supplementary Hours - Up to 20 per week (self-managed; predominantly Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm)
About the Role
KEYFORT is seeking passionate, committed, and experienced professionals to join our specialist academic support team. As a Freelance Specialist Mentor and Study Skills Tutor (Autism), you will work in partnership with universities and further education colleges to deliver high-quality, person-centred academic support for students with Autism.
Your dual role will involve:
- Delivering tailored 1:1 support, both mentoring and study skills-based, in line with student needs as outlined in DSA assessments.
- Supporting students to build confidence, develop learning strategies, and manage academic, emotional, and practical challenges.
- Creating and maintaining Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) and/or work plans that reflect the student’s goals and progress.
- Encouraging independence and helping students to reach their full academic potential.
Support will be delivered face-to-face at university campuses local to you and, where appropriate based on student needs and funding body agreements.

- Experienced in working with individuals with Autism.
- Highly motivated and positive, with a passion for enabling others to succeed.
- Skilled in developing learning strategies and supporting emotional and academic wellbeing.
Essential Criteria
Qualifications (All Mandatory):
- A relevant degree.
- Completion of all six National Autistic Society (NAS) online training modules:
- Understanding Autism
- Autism and Communication
- Autism and Sensory Experience
- Autism, Stress and Anxiety
- Autism: Supporting Families
- Autism and Girls
- Completion of the NAS one-day face-to-face course in Autism and SPELL in Higher Education.
For Study Skills Tutor element (one of the following Teaching Qualifications is mandatory):
- PGCE, CertEd, PGCTLHE, QTS, QTLS, PGCAP, PGCHE, DET, or equivalent teaching qualification.
- Associate Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA) or higher.
- AMBDA or ADG membership.
You must be able to provide evidence of all mandatory qualifications and training prior to interview.
