Overview
HOTA is seeking to appoint a Full Time Finance Officer to manage all accounting operations including purchase ledger, payroll, VAT submissions etc. It is essential that the candidate holds a formal qualification of AAT Level 4 or above and has an extensive background in accounting.
Description:
The role will also (but not exclusively) include the following as required:
1. Develop and maintain a system of financial control
2. Prepare annual budgets for approval by the Board and manage the operation of the Association within the context set by the budget and performance measures under the guidance of the Chief Executive
3. Keep the activities of the Association in all sections under review to maintain and enhance the continuing financial viability through the effective control of the Associations financial resources under the guidelines of the Chief Executive
4. Prepare monthly and annual accounts for the Chief Executive and Board of Trustees
5. To advise the Chief Executive and Board of Trustees on financial accounts.
6. Carry out day to day purchase ledgers functions across the business
7. Preparation and submission of VAT returns
8. Maintain monthly payroll, pensions and other deductions in association with the Chief Executive
9. Maintain fixed asset register
10. Maintain prepayments, accruals, depreciation and other monthly journals
11. Attend board meetings and provide financial reports to the Board of Trustees
12. Ensure adequate administrative and quality records are kept
13. To manage the maintenance of statutory books and filing of annual returns under the guidance of the Chief Executive
14. To ensure compliance with requirements regarding the appointment and conduct of Trustees, Company Secretary and Auditors under the guidance of the Chief Executive
15. Ensure that the office is run professionally and smoothly at all times adhering to all the relevant procedures and practices
16. Evaluate and develop self
17. Carry out other such duties as deemed necessary by the Chief Executive
Appointment
The appointment will be permanent subject to satisfactory performance and a 6 months probationary period. The post reports directly to the Chief Executive and Board of Trustees.
Experience
The successful applicant will have the following proven experiences and characteristics:
Essential
· Formal qualification of AAT level 4 or above
· Extensive background in financial accounting
· Experience in payroll and all association tasks including dealing with HMRC, pensions
· Experience in preparation of VAT and submissions
Desirable
· Experience of Opera Accounting package
· Experience and knowledge of Charity Accounts
· Excellent communication skills
