Estimator duties include:
- Receiving enquires and reviewing drawings and specs.
- Work on your own, as well as with the in house team, where needed to produce quotes for portal frame and beam and stick structures.
- Carrying out material take offs and assigning times/costs for the full scope of work.
- Liaise internally and externally if needed to ensure accurate pricing.
Estimator requirements:
- Proven experience working as an Estimator is essential.
- Experience working on varied structural steel is essential.
- Have excellent attention to detail and good organisational skills.
- Live in/within a commutable distance of the office – this is an office based role.

Key Responsibilities:
- Estimation: Produce accurate and detailed estimates for portal frame projects, ensuring all packages, inclusions, and exclusions are covered.
- Tender Support: Analyze client enquiry documents, including bills of quantities, to ensure the bid meets requirements and complies with all specifications.
- Costing: Engage with the supply chain to obtain competitive sub-contract quotations, keeping abreast of current market rates.
- Drawing Interpretation: Read and interpret structural engineers' and architects' drawings, design reports, and specifications.
- Collaboration: Work with the team to meet project targets and timelines. Participate in pre- and post-tender meetings with clients.
- Documentation: Produce comprehensive quotation documents and ensure smooth handover to the contracts department post-bid success.
Key Skills & Experience:
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years’ experience in estimating, specifically with structural steelwork portal frames.
- Software Proficiency: Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Time Management: Ability to deliver within allocated time scales while maintaining accuracy.
- Communication: Strong communication, presentation, and pro-active problem-solving skills.
- Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with the steelwork and construction industry and its client base.
- Planning & Commercial Knowledge: Good planning skills and an understanding of cost management and market rates.
- Full UK Driving License: Required for travel to meetings and sites as needed.
